- Start The Journey-
Built in 1990’s by the Kirijo group, Aigis was one of the many Anti-Shadow mechanisms that were created to eliminate the threat of uncontrollable Shadows, the manifestation of human emotions. This was the reason she was given a personality and persona. Ironically, Aigis and her “sisters” overall failed their initial purpose. Slowly, the weapons in the line fell out of use and were inoperable until Aigis was the only one left. It was then that Aigis was met with the 13th Arcana and harbinger of the Fall, Death.

Not unexpectedly, Aigis was unable to defeat Death, but instead sealed it’s being inside a young boy nearby. Although she was machine, this didn’t stop Aigis from feeling deep regret for what she had done to the young boy. But she didn’t have much time to contemplate this for her systems had been damaged to the point of malfunction, thus causing the Anti-Shadow weapon to shut down completely.

A group of Kirijo Scientists came by soon to retrieve her and restore her to her former self. Despite the amount of time and effort put into trying to fix Aigis, her memory banks were unsalvageable and she stayed for the most part inoperable. Moved to Yakushima, Aigis was placed in the Kirijo lab to idle for the next ten years.

July 21st, 2008. Ten years after, Aigis had been initially placed in the lab, she reactivated herself. This was not without purpose however. She had detected the presence of that same child that was doomed to carry Death’s avatar. Leaving the lab in a rush, she found herself upon a dock, staring out to the ocean in it‘s entirety. It was her first time out in ten years after all. Unbeknownst to her, hiding behind a nearby rock were three vacationing Gekkoukan High Students trying their luck at “picking up chicks.” This group included Junpei Iori, Akihiko Sanada and Minato Arisato, the boy that held part of Nyx inside himself. Though, he was no longer a child of 5. In that order, the males proceeded to try to make a move on the oblivious robot. Aigis, not understanding a thing, blatantly brushed them off until it was Minato’s turn to approach the robot.

Upon laying eyes on the high schooler, the guilt from ten years ago came flooding back into her mind, taking her off guard. Aigis was unsure of the reason why she felt this way, but did not deny it. Indecisively she immediately set off running into the forest. But the boy was persistent and ran after her. Diving behind a map-sign in a crossroad, Aigis confirmed that this was indeed the boy. At this point she wasn’t sure why she had to protect him. After this abrupt introduction, Aigis was rediscovered by Shuji Ikutsuki and taken back into the lab to be prepped. It was during this time that Aigis “new” purpose was rectified.

From that point on she was accepted into S.E.E.S. (Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad) and was to help in their exploration of Tartarus and elimination of Major Shadows. As Summer break came to a close, Aigis left Yakushima with the group of students and went back to Tatsumi Port Island. She quickly moved into the dorm and welcomed her new lifestyle rather well. Aigis even went through applying at Gekkoukan High School so that she could be close to her comrades (more specifically Minato). During her stay at the dorm, her obsession of watching over and protecting Minato intensified which led, but not limited to watching him in his sleep, following him around and etc.

Throughout this time, Aigis continues to protect Minato as well as ponder her own existence and the relevance of human life, and her role in the world. Not long after this, a boy by the name of Ryoji Mochizuki transfers to Gekkoukan. Right off the bat, the anti-shadow machine began to call the boy “dangerous.” Though it was no surprise for the rest of the class as his first words to Aigis were made up of a cheesy pick-up line. Regardless, Aigis didn’t take a liking to Ryoji and warned Minato to stay away from the newest transfer student.

Soon after, these events, S.E.E.S. was successfully able to defeat the 12th Shadow; The Hanged Man. Ikutsuki took this as an opportunity to take Aigis back and reveal his true plans for both The Dark Hour and Tartarus. He overrode Aigis’s programming and forced her to retrieve every member of the squad (every human member anyways) and helped cuff them up to huge stone crosses on top of Tartarus. Ikutsuki then proceeded to explain that their sacrifice was for the better good and was all needed in the revival of Nyx.

Following a rather long-winded explanation. Ikutsuki then ordered Aigis to eliminate the S.E.E.S. members, starting with Minato. However, Aigis couldn’t bear the idea of killing (even though Ikutsuki had reprogrammed her to) everyone, let alone Minato. Distraught, she began fighting back against the revisions and ultimately freed everyone from their bindings. Sadly, this didn’t end without the death of two individuals; Ikutsuki and Takeharu Kirijo (Mitsuru’s dad). Shaken by the incident, the group continued back to the dorm and was completely unsure of what to do.

Aigis, just as anyone else, was affected by the things Ikutsuki had said about Shadows. Despite what had happened with S.E.E.S, she could still sense that there was still something odd about this “Ryoji” fellow. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but she never gave up. Days passed and she began to spend much of her time away from the dorm, returning late on many nights. In the end, this time period was rather useful. Then one day it hit her. Why she saw him as dangerous clicked in her head as part of her memory bank had somehow been recovered. The night of the full moon, Aigis decided to track him down the best she could and set things straight. Of all places to find him, the robot somewhat ironically finds the boy atop Moonlight Bridge during the Dark Hour.

Spending a moment to exchange words, Aigis spat out to Ryoji that he was her “enemy.” This simple word caused the boy to remember an important moment in his life, a time where the two had met before in the same place. Although he couldn’t place his finger on the exact moment, Aigis knew fully well of the incident and fed Ryoji bits and pieces. In time, Ryoji realized everything and it became a full circle. Ryoji was Death. The Arcana that Aigis had initially sealed away ten years ago.

While Ryoji was panic-stricken because of the news, Aigis took this opportunity to go into magical Orgia Mode and summon her Persona to attempt to beat the crap out of Ryoji. She didn’t have enough power then and she still lacked the power now, causing her to break down once again. Thankfully, she was found by the S.E.E.S. dorm group and told Minato of the choices that had happened ten years ago. Let’s just say Aigis wasn’t thinking the straightest out there. Afterwards, she was taken to the Kirijo lab once again for repair.

After laying idle and in repair for a number of weeks, Aigis finally returns to the dorm on December 30th . During the time she spent in the lab and the visitations that Mitsuru came to inform her of Ryoji’s new news, she realized her limitations and came back with a strong mindset. Upon coming back, Aigis asked Minato one important thing. She requested for Minato to please kill Ryoji-kun.

Unable to see her friends and allies full of sorrow, she wished for everyone to forget about the Dark Hour and live happy lives up until the fall. Carpe diem. Even if it meant for them to forget everything that the group had gone through. Surprised by everyone’s reaction to her statement, she began to question why she had been repaired and brought back to the dorm. She said that her purpose was to defeat Shadows but she failed at that. Aigis began to spout out emo cynic thoughts and asked why they‘d rather fight.

Slowly, the group explained their reasoning and unveiled her purpose was to be figured out by herself and not told to her by anyone else. They mention how she has already changed so much since the time of her activation. Thinking back, Aigis slowly agrees on the matter and her resolution is straightened and modified causing her Persona Palladion to give way to Athena of the Chariot Arcana. She chooses to then join in everyone else’s choice to stand up against Nyx.

As the time comes by to face Nyx, everyone is pitted against Nyx’s dozen different forms. With some difficulty, the strong-hearted group succeeded in defeating Nyx’s leading twelve battles. The only one left was Death; Nyx’s true form. Successfully, they beat down the monster into unconsciousness, but not to complete end. Nyx once again got back up, causing everyone but Minato to collapse, unable to battle. To no surprise, Minato was special and with the help of Aigis and those around him, he was able to seal Nyx away. Despite her new resolve, she was unable to protect Minato from the inevitable and shed tears for the first time. How robots cry? We will never know. Then all was well. Nyx was gone and Tartarus was nowhere to be seen.

Well, not really.

Soon after the fight, Aigis was completely excited to find everyone else and celebrate their success. Unfortunately she realized something horrific. Everyone had forgotten everything about the Dark Hour and how they had fought together. Silently, she suffered through one month of isolation so that everyone could live out happily. There was still time until the promise that they had all made was to be fulfilled. She still had faith.

On the last day of school, Aigis remembers the promise that everyone made before they had faced Nyx and quietly made her way to Minato’s dorm room. There she explained that she remembered everything from before and no one else seemed to. To her surprise Minato was the other one that also remembered. The two of them soon took off and arrived on the roof-top of Gekkoukan High. There she waited with him to come. Taking the time, she told him everything plaguing her mind from what happened during the battle with Nyx to how she still wanted to keep on protecting the man.

Just like the final battle, Aigis shed tears of joy and thanked the protagonist for being there. She offered up the idea of falling asleep, which he slowly accepted. But as the other remembered and arrived at the scene, Minato lulled into a complete sleep. He slept through the night and through the next morning and on and on. Aigis was worried.

-End The Journey-

Due to the passing, Aigis lost the will to live. She wanted to keep living to protecting him, but it was hard for her to do such now that he wasn’t there. Needless to say, the experience hurt her to the point that she wished that her emotions would disappear and she would go back to the Anti-Shadow machine that she had started out as.

- Start The Answer-

Nearly a month has passed since Minato passed away. On the day Mitsuru is collecting evokers, Aigis brings in “his” evoker to the room. Following this, she tells the group that she will no longer live alongside them and will instead return to the lab. She then proceeded to return to her room to retire.

Seeing an odd blue butterfly flying around in the room, Aigis couldn’t help but question why in the world it was even in there in the first place. As she reached out to touch it, an ear-shattering sound. Fuuka immediately contacted her and told her to go down to the lounge. There she was greeted by a red and black clad figure who was completely destroying the room. She paraded around exclaiming that she was Aigis’s “sister” and she was there to protect Aigis. She saw the others as threats to Aigis and proceeded to try and blow the brains out of the ex-S.E.E.S. members in the lounge. The evokers were put away, rendering everyone useless.

But being a robot, Aigis didn’t need an evoker to call upon Athena and jumped into action. To her surprise, Athena transmogrified into Orpheus (Minato’s default Persona). While fighting the mystery robot, Aigis successfully subdued the other but also over killed her Orgia Mode and passed out.

During this time of subconscious, Aigis awoke in the Velvet Room. Here a mysterious imp man by the name if Igor greeted her and told her of what the Velvet Room was in existence for. She learns of the ability that Minato had previously been capable of. Igor also tells her that she now had the same power and her “Journey” was about to begin. After all of this, Aigis was kicked out of the Velvet Room and back into “real life.” During the time of her unconscious, Aigis was refitted with extra armor, ammunition.

Waking up, Aigis watched as everyone else began to interrogate the intruder. In this they learned that the intruder was known as “Metis” and the odd cellar-entrance that had grown out underneath the dining table. Opening it up, they were lead into the Abyss of Time. Metis explains that the creation of this place was a result of Tartarus forming and that it was all that she knew. On that note, Mitsuru decided that SEES would once again regroup and explore the Abyss of Time in search of a way out and to end things once and for all. Aigis was appointed field leader because of her Wild Card ability. Just like Tartarus, the group began to explore the Abyss of Time.

As the story progresses, it is revealed that Aigis’s initial thoughts of losing her gained humanity surface once again. Upon venturing to the deepest area of the Abyss of Time, the members encounters a Shadow that manifested from S.E.E.S.'s negative feelings and their will to see Minato once again. After defeating the shadow, each person was given a key. Only when the keys were all put together could they hold the “true key” and continue forward and end everything once in for all. It was said that the group could either go back and change the past or not mess with the past and keep on going forward.

To no surprise, no one could agree in what to do. Yukari decided to let her emotions loose and lashed out at Aigis out of jealously. Aigis had inherited the protagonist's Wild Card ability, something that Yukari couldn‘t grasp. Yukari as well as a few others wanted to go into the past and try to fix things while the rest wanted to keep on living as is and honor the fight even more. Sensing that everyone was adamant, the idea of a series of fights was offered up. Aigis was backed up by Metis and was to go up against the others in groups of two to regain the remaining keys. As the fights pass, Aigis slowly remembers her talk of purpose and rekindled her will to keep on “living.” In the end, Aigis and Metis rule victorious and hold possession of all the small keys. With this power, she decided not to change the past, but to never forget Minato’s sacrifice and keep on living life to the fullest.

Collecting all the keys and forming the true key, she decided to explore Minato’s true cause of death and was transported, along with members of S.E.E.S. (who apparently didn‘t die but went into an odd hiatus sort of thing), one month back to the final battle against Nyx. In there, they witness Minato’s sealing of Nyx, and where he currently is. Metis takes this time to explain what she knows, leading the party to the fact that Minato is a seal to keep Nyx from escaping.

This wasn’t the part that surprised them the most. Nyx was only thing that was sealed. Erebus, the manifestation of humans negative will and nihilism was kept free. Out of almost nowhere, Erebus reached out and pulled at the stone-man attempting the destroy the seal, the members of S.E.E.S decided to defeat Erebus. They know that Erebus was unable to be destroyed, but they temporarily subdued it anyways. Aigis swore that she’d change the world somehow so that Minato will be once again freed from his imprisonment.

After the defeat of Erebus, Aigis uses the key to return to the present time. But something expected happened. The entire group was transported into the Velvet Room. Igor explains that Aigis had reached the end of her journey, and found her answer for living. During this time, it is revealed that Metis was in fact part of Aigis. She was the manifestation of Aigis’s humanity. Aigis once again accepted Metis and the two reconciled calmly and fused back into one being, causing Aigis to become sleepy.

As this last part closes up, the Abyss of Time disappeared from existence and everyone was returned to the dorm.

After returning, members of SEES were surprised to see that Aigis was still asleep. Fearing that she had suffered the same fate as Minato had a month earlier, they took Aigis to her room, where they attempted to repair her. Her circuit board was completely fried and beyond compare. They feared the worst. However, as Aigis was unconscious, she heard Metis's voice encouraging her to keep on going. She is finally woken up by Yukari‘s call out for her. From this point on, Aigis was truly “living” and not just a machine. Everyone rejoices and quickly begin to try and move forward.

The day everyone is moving out of the dorm, Aigis decided to cancel her plans of returning to the lab and instead asked if she could return to Gekkoukan High for her senior year. Shyly, Yukari asks if Aigis would like to be her new roommate. All the same, Aigis accepts the offer and they leave the dorm.

Aigis is last seen in the rooftop of Gekkoukan High, where she looks forward for a brand new day for she was transported to Memento Eden for unknown reasons.

When it comes to the ways of the world, Aigis is nearly clueless in it’s workings. Many assume that just because she is a robot she is incapable of showing emotion, the basis of personality. This statement is untrue as emotion is a dire part of summoning one’s Persona. In order for Aigis to fulfill this, a make-shift personality must be established.

She's prone to sticking to blacks and whites. It’s not abnormal for Aigis to restate the obvious or ramble on in a technical jargon that no one is able to follow. This is coupled with the fact that Aigis has an amazing ability to be oblivious and naïve of the simplest human actions like getting hit on by Ryoji. make her somewhat childlike and simple. As her time in Iwatodai passed, she has become more aware of the world around her. By observing the world around her over time, Aigis is able to comprehend and learn new things. Eventually, she will no longer be naïve of human interactions… Though it seems like that time would be rather far off from now.

Things that normal people would consider "common sense" would be totally lost to her. Being a robot, Aigis’s boundaries and such differ from those around her. For example, because she is a machine and not a girl, sneaking into Minato's room at night was completely fine. Calling someone you’ve just met “dangerous” is also fair game in Aigis‘s book.

Being an Anti-Shadow weapon, the majority of her thoughts involve the battlefield. She prioritizes these thoughts and are the first to. Her academics and general retainment of knowledge other wise is poor if not lacking. It’s not that she doesn’t like knowledge of the world, she just doesn’t think it’s very important. to know things outside the necessary.
